Hyderabad; 23 Nov 2024 (PMI): In the coordination meeting chaired by the North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), discussions were held with over 350 representatives/ members from various temples to enhance security and community safety at religious worship places. The meeting underscored the importance of proactive measures to ensure the safety and sanctity of temples, especially during the festive seasons in the wake recent averments.
Key points of discussion included:
1. Enhanced Security Measures:
The DCP emphasized the need for robust security infrastructure, including comprehensive CCTV coverage with a minimum of 30 to 45 days backup and adequate lighting both inside and around temple premises to deter criminal activities. Keeping the accessibility of CC Network with a responsible person and to see that it is linked with the Local Police Network if possible.
2. Trained Watchmen & Regular Maintenance:
Temple authorities were advised to employ trained watchmen for round-the-clock security and to ensure that garbage bins are emptied frequently to prevent stray dogs or animals from spreading non-vegetarian remains or other garbage, which may hurt religious sentiments.
3. Preventing Desecration:
A strict appeal was made to avoid sticking posters of deities or religious symbols on temple compound walls, as this can lead to desecration by vagabonds, mentally unsound individuals, or miscreants, which can deeply offend religious sentiments.
4. Community Awareness Initiatives:
The DCP urged temple managements to collaborate in raising awareness about social media rumors, drug menace, cybercrime, online offenses, and crimes against women, particularly on platforms frequented by local communities.
5. Traffic Management:
Encouragement was given for community carpooling during festivals to avoid traffic congestion and parking issues. This initiative aims to reduce stress on local roads and improve accessibility to temples.
6. Fire and Electrical Safety:
The need for regular fire and electrical safety audits was highlighted to prevent accidents/ untoward incidents.
7. Emergency Contact Information:
Temple authorities were requested to display the contact numbers of the local Station House Officer, Sector SIs, and the emergency number ‘100’ prominently within the temple premises to ensure swift communication in case of emergencies. To keep watch on street dwellers / destitute or unknown especially where Annadanam programs are being organized and to inform if any to Police so that they can be accommodated at any of the homes.
8. Cooperation with Police:
Temple managements were urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the community and maintaining peace, particularly during religious festivals.

The meeting was concluded with a commitment from both the police and the temple managements to continue working together in a coordinated effort to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of the community while respecting religious sentiments.
