CM Revanth Appeals to Maoists to Surrender, Join Nation-Building Efforts
Hyderabad, Oct. 21 (PMI):
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Maoists to surrender before the Telangana Police and return to the mainstream, emphasizing their role in nation-building and development.
Telangana has suffered from Maoist and terrorist activities in the past. The unwavering commitment of our police has led to a significant decline in such incidents,” Revanth Reddy said, noting that several senior Maoist leaders had already surrendered.
I appeal to all remaining Maoist leaders and cadres to surrender before the police and join mainstream life, he added.
Tribute to Police Martyrs
The Chief Minister made these remarks while paying rich tributes to police martyrs at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial in Hyderabad on Police Commemoration Day. He said 191 police personnel, including six from Telangana, sacrificed their lives in the line of duty this year.
Telangana Police Praised for Excellence
Revanth Reddy lauded the Telangana Police for being a national model in adopting modern technology and innovative policing methods.
Citing the India Justice Report 2025, he said the Telangana Police were ranked first in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs also commended the department for its transparent passport verification system, reflecting its professionalism and integrity.
Fighting New-Age Crimes
Highlighting emerging challenges such as cybercrime, digital fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and content morphing, the Chief Minister said cyber offences now appear more frequently than traditional crimes.
He commended the establishment of the Cyber Security Bureau, led by a DGP-rank officer, for its exemplary work in tackling cybercrime and conducting inter-state operations against cyber criminals.
The Telangana Police have set an example for the entire country in combating terrorism, anti-social activities, white-collar crimes, and drug abuse he said, adding that the department has created an environment where “it is impossible to escape after committing a crime.
Towards a Drug-Free Telangana
Revanth Reddy also reiterated his government’s commitment to make Telangana a ‘Drug-Free State’ through the newly formed ‘Eagle’ (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) force. He directed the police to take stern action against those involved in drug trafficking and assured them of full powers to act decisively.
Welfare and Reform Measures
To reduce workload and enhance efficiency, the government has recruited around 16,000 constables and sub-inspectors, the Chief Minister said. Political interference in policing, he noted, has been “completely eliminated.”
Revanth Reddy stressed that transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct are the cornerstones of effective policing, helping bridge the gap between the force and the public.
Balancing Law and Liberty
He emphasized that “friendly policing” is meant for law-abiding citizens, not offenders. While protests and demonstrations are integral to democracy, the police must ensure they do not inconvenience the general public, he said.
Maintaining law and order is crucial for Telangana’s rapid development. In this digital age, where social media influence is growing, police must act with caution and sensitivity, the Chief Minister concluded.
