CM assures farmers of crop loans waiver, flays Congress

Hyderabad, Jan.20 (PMI): Leader of the House and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today announced waiver of 100 per cent of crop loans in Telangana State and help the farmers overcome debts and related problems. He also slammed the previous governments for miserably failing to address the farmers’ issues.

The past governments by the Congress or the TDP have totally ignored the agriculture and irrigation sectors. Addressing in the House on the debate of thanksgiving motion to Governor ESL Narasimhan speech he said that upto Rs 1 lakh loan will be waived off without any disparity.

Speaking on loan waiver to help the farmers and providing minimum support price for farm produce, the Chief Minister elaborated on the issues and schemes being implemented so far. “The other States are replicating our schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bheema and others, he claimed. The Opposition members should not lose patience as the government was planning to implement the schemes one after another in a phase manner.

He also expressed displeasure at the Opposition members for their remarks on schemes and programs like crop loan waiver, farmers problems, irrigation projects and others. “The people voted us back to power and the TRS government will vie for providing them all help, he said. Though the Congress, during the Assembly polls, promised to waive Rs 2 lakh crop loans at one go, the people trusted us and gave power, he claimed. Punjab and Madhya Pradesh States failed to waive such amounts and we are taking care to avoid inconvenience by the bankers in this regard. “So far, we have waived off Rs 17000 crore in four phases and this time the government will plan out the crop loan waiver in phases or at one go, he added.

The state government can help the farmers to some extent as it cannot take a decision to provide MSP to farm produce which is to be decided by the Centre. To avoid duplication or fake quality of goods and essential commodities like chilli powder, turmeric, oil and milk and others, the government was making a study, he said. The government will take steps to make brand s on the lines of Vijaya Milk products and Lizzat pappad. He said          that IKP employees will be regularized and enable 45 women groups play key role in food processing units and crop colonies in Assembly segments and mandals also in major village panchayats.  (PMI)
