Hyderabad, 16 Oct(Shoukat-PMI): Chilkalguda Police have apprehended two members of a notorious car rental fraud gang and recovered seven four-wheeler vehicles worth approximately ₹80 lakh. The gang lured car owners by promising high monthly rents, but failed to pay dues and handed the vehicles to third parties, cheating owners of nearly ₹9.10 lakh.
The prime accused, Sangishetty Praveen Kumar (44), along with G. Amarendar (32), used the rental scam to gain victims’ trust by initially paying a few installments before disappearing with the vehicles. Another accomplice, Md. Rizwan (33), is currently absconding.
The fraud came to light when Sri N. Gyaneshwar of Amberpet filed a complaint after lending vehicles to the accused, who allegedly transferred them to associates and defaulted on payments.
Recovered vehicles include Ertigas, Swift Dzire, and Baleno cars belonging to residents of Amberpet, Karimnagar, Bansilalpet, Mosarambagh, and Ameenpur.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Dy. Commissioner of Police, East Zone, B. Balaswamy, IPS, and the operation was led by Inspector B. Anudeep and SI S. Anjaneyulu.
