Hyderabad Nov 7 (PMI): A case is registered with Cr. No: 1046/2020 and entrusted to Sri. K. Srinivas, Inspector of Police for investigation as a woman employee lodge a complaint on 6th November 2020 in which she stated that on 06th November 2020 she ordered an Inverter from amazon.com. To contact customer care she searched in Google and found the number “+919641463004 as customer care of Amazon.in” in google and contacted them. After that he informed her to call 9883462347.
After a while she got a return call from +919641463004 and the caller informed her that she should pay Rs.10/- as penalty, then complainant agreed for that and opened her Google Pay. After that, caller asked her to enter UPI ID 9818102636@rbl and asked her to type the UPI pin. In this way, she entered three times of Rs.39, 989/-, Rs.39, 989/-, Rs.19, 989/- and typed her UPI PIN. On checking her bank statement, she found that an amount of Rs.99, 967/- debited from her bank account. Since then he is not responding to the calls. Complainant realized that it was a fraud made on the name of Amazon customer care. Hence she requested to take necessary action as per law.
With the increased use of Technology, Cyber fraudsters are coming up with innovative ways to trick or deceive innocents. Now they have come up with an easy way of cheating by uploading their mobile numbers as Customer Care Service Contact numbers of various applications and sites. Cyber Crime Police station, Cyberabad is receiving similar complaints of cheating by the fake customer care services. In one of the recent cases, the complainant lost his money to the fraudsters innocently by contacting such fake customer care. The details are as follows.
In view of the above citizens are requested by Police department the following.
(i) Not to search for customer care numbers on Google.
(ii) Use a separate mobile number and Handset for registering with Bank accounts and not to use this mobile number for calling.
(iii) To raise any disputes or complaints from the genuine application or site itself.
(iv) To chat with customer service on the applications or use email to communicate with the customer care to resolve any issue.
(V) Not to reveal or share banking credentials through any means (Over call/view forms/SMS)
(VI) Not to install remote access applications without knowing its purpose and genuineness. (Press Media of India)
