Channa Reddy centenary fete from tomorrow; Rosaiah urges govt to celebrate it officially

Hyderabad,  Recalling services of former chief minister late Dr Marri Channa Reddy, former chief minister and former governor K Rosaiah today said they will celebrate Channa Reddy centenary celebrations on a grand note.  Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will deliver Channa Reddy memorial lecture in February, he said.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Rosaiah said they will launch centenary celebrations on January 13 marking 99th birth anniversary of Dr Marri Chenna Reddy and the programs will be organized throughout the year. He said Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayana Swamy will be participating in the program on January 13.

Rosaiah said late Channa Reddy was an outstanding administrator. He always thought and acted as a statesman. His long and illustrious political career started as a freedom fighter, the youngest member of the Provisional Parliament in 1950 at the age of 31, a cabinet minister in then Hyderabad State in 1952 at the age of 33 and has left an indelible mark since then. He was also a signatory to the Gentlemen’s Agreement in 1956 at the time of AP formation. His contributions as a minister in the old Hyderabad State and Andhra Pradesh as Chief Minister twice and as governor of five states have been exemplary, Rosaiah said.

Rosaiah said the Birth Celebrations Committee proposes to hold about five to six seminars during the centenary year on contributions made by late Dr Channa Reddy, including various programs that were implemented during his time like Remote Area Development Program, Cyclone Emergency Reconstruction Program by World Bank, his commitment for social justice and secularism to promote communal harmony. Besides, various organisations, institutions and individuals expressed their eagerness to celebrate the centenary in a befitting manner, both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Rosaiah added saying it would be good if the government conducted Channa Reddy centenary celebrations officially.
