New Delhi, March 2 (PMI): The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all states and Union Territories to closely monitor pro-Iran fundamentalist clerics delivering provocative speeches that could potentially incite violence in the aftermath of the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a U.S.-Israeli strike.
According to official sources, in a letter sent to all states on February 28, the Ministry instructed authorities to maintain strict vigilance over extremist elements and the social media activities of global terror outfits to prevent any deterioration in the law and order situation.
The advisory emphasized that global developments could have domestic repercussions through inflammatory rhetoric and urged state governments to ensure that peace and public order are not disturbed. States have also been asked to enhance security around U.S. and Israeli consulates, embassies, and other diplomatic establishments, as well as institutions linked to the two countries.
In view of the escalating situation in the Middle East, a high alert has been sounded in the national capital, particularly in areas surrounding diplomatic missions of the United States, Israel, Iran, and other countries.
Meanwhile, protests have erupted in several parts of India, with Shia mourners taking to the streets to express anger over Khamenei’s reported killing. In Kashmir, authorities have reduced mobile internet speeds as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Officials stated that approximately 1.5 million Shias reside in Kashmir. Large-scale demonstrations have been reported from Srinagar, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag, and Pulwama. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents. (pressmediaofindia.com)
