Hyderabad’6 July :The BRS party is planning to introduce a No Confidence Motion against GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. According to sources, the BRS party could move the motion in the ongoing meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to unseat Vijayalakshmi, who defected to the ruling Congress party along with a few other corporators. The BRS party clearly indicated a direct confrontation in the GHMC’s general body meeting held on Saturday. As soon as the meeting began, BRS corporators surrounded the Mayor’s podium, demanding her resignation from the post following her defection to the Congress party. They displayed placards and shouted slogans against her
Following the chaos and pandemonium, the Mayor adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes. However, the situation remained unchanged when the meeting resumed, prompting the Mayor to walk out as BRS members continued to raise slogans against her. It may be mentioned that Mayor Vijayalakshmi and Deputy Mayor Srilatha, who were elected on a BRS ticket, joined the Congress when it came to power in the state. Many BRS corporators also joined the Congress party.
Despite these defections, BRS remains strong with 47 corporators, including MLAs, MLCs, and ex-officio members. The MIM has 41 members, the BJP has 39, and the Congress has 19. In these
circumstances, the BRS party has the required numbers to win the No Confidence Motion against the Mayor.
