Several schools in Delhi and NCR received bomb threats on Friday, prompting immediate closures and a shift to online classes.
A guardian of one student shared that they received news of the closure and online classes only today, suspecting the bomb threat as the cause.
“School administration is saying that school is closed today, and the classes will run online… They said nothing, but I think it’s because of the bomb threat,” the guardian stated.
Earlier in the day, several schools in Delhi and Noida were targeted with bomb threats. The police have launched an investigation, and Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) is being followed.
Ahlcon International School, located in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar-1, reported the bomb threat to the Pandav Nagar police station. The principal of the school received an email threat regarding a bomb on Friday morning.
The police were informed at 6:40 am, and the bomb disposal squad of the East District was alerted. The Station Head Officer (SHO) of Pandav Nagar, along with staff, arrived at the school. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) thoroughly examined the premises but found nothing suspicious.
The school’s principal also sent an email to parents informing them that, due to the safety threat, the campus would remain closed on Friday.
Shiv Nadar School in Noida also received a similar bomb threat. In response, the Noida police, bomb squad, fire brigade, Dog Squad, and BDDS team conducted thorough checks at the school.
“Senior police officers are present on the spot. The cyber team is investigating the email. The public is requested not to pay heed to the rumours and maintain patience,” the Noida police said.
St Stephens College, located in North Delhi, was another institution to receive a bomb threat. The Deputy Commissioner of Police for North District confirmed that the college received the threat via email at 7:42 AM. “Our BDT is on the ground and doing a check,” the police stated.
Earlier, Delhi Police had taken action against a juvenile who had sent a series of hoax bomb threats to over 400 schools across the capital. A public school student was arrested after a thorough technical investigation by the Cyber Cell of South District police.
The authorities recovered a laptop and two mobile phones from the accused, which were subjected to forensic analysis. The investigation revealed the accused’s involvement in sending threatening emails to numerous schools.
Despite using anonymous and encrypted email services, the accused was caught through advanced technical methods. Further analysis of the devices, along with the accused’s confession, revealed his involvement in sending similar threats to over 400 schools in Delhi.
On January 8, 2025, approximately 23 schools in Delhi had received threatening emails warning of bombs on their premises, resulting in widespread panic and disruption of school activities.
