But the BJP has devised a strong plan to challenge the domination of the Owaisis in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha Segment.
madhavi lata bjp In the first list of MPs announced by BJP yesterday, Kompella Madhavi Latha’s name caught everyone’s attention the reason being her announcement as BJP Hyderabad MP candidate.
Telangana BJP has fielded Virinchi Hospital Chairman Kompella Madhavi Latha who is not even a primary member of the party as its Lok Sabha candidate to challenge four-time Hyderabad MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad. What’s interesting is that she has been named the party contestant even before she became a primary member of the BJP. She joined the party in the presence of Tarun Chugh on Sunday, while her candidacy was announced on Saturday.
Madhavi Latha, a businesswoman, Bharatnatyam dancer, and NCC cadet, has been campaigning in the old city of Hyderabad and against triple talaq for the past six months. Though she has never been active in politics, she has been working with Muslim women’s groups to campaign for the abolition of triple talaq and has frequently raised the issue in the old city. Madhavi Latha, who is a trustee of Viswanadha Foundation, Lopamudra Charitable Trust, and Lathama Foundation, has set up a fund for destitute Muslim women, runs a gaushala, and is an advocate of Hindutva and Indian culture.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Nizam College and a post-graduate degree in political science from Koti Women’s College. Madhavi Latha’s elder daughter Lopamudra is a 19-year-old BTech student at IIT Madras, while her son Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, 16, is also an IITian in his first year of BTech. The 49-year-old is a trustee of the Lathamma Foundation and Lopamudra Charitable Trust and also runs a small fund for destitute Muslim women. She also runs a gaushala.
Hoping for a BJP ticket, she had already started meeting women in some parts of the old city. Last month, she posted on social media her photographs distributing ration among burka-clad women. The program was organized under the aegis of the Latham Foundation.
Madhavi Latha organizes education, healthcare, and food distribution programs and offers to help the needy with a missed call to her mobile number.
After the BJP announced her as its candidate, she added ‘Mission Hyderabad Parliament’ to her profile on social media. She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President J. P. Nadda, Amit Shah, and other leaders for allowing her to contest from Hyderabad.
A bitter critic of AIMIM, she says that the party never tried to address the problems of poverty and poor civic amenities in the constituency.
A post-graduate in political sciences from Koti Women’s College, she is looking to succeed where BJP stalwarts like Venkaiah Naidu had failed in the past.
BJP, which has set the target of winning 370 Lok Sabha seats across the country, is focussing on Telangana, where it had bagged four out of 17 seats in 2019.
