Hyderabad, Oct.22 (Shoukat-PMI): BJP former MLC & State membership in-charge N. Ramchandra Rao today said their party’s membership drive was going on extensively across the country and added that although the central party had extended the last date due to various reasons. He said the drive would be held till October 30 in view of the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand States as well as in the country.
Speaking to media persons at State BJP office, he said, “For the past few days, the BJP’s membership drive has been going on in full swing. On Monday alone, some 1,30,000 members were registered. On September 25, the birth anniversary of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, 1,35,000 members were registered. About 45,000 memberships are being issued every day.
“We will reach the target by October 30. Those who want to become our party’s member should go to the link through a missed call No 8800002024 and enter the referral code to confirm phone number along with the personal details,” Rao said, adding till Monday, some four lakh subscriptions were registered through the missed calls and up to 20 lakh members were registered online.
He said in total, 24 lakh BJP members had been registered in Telangana till date. He said only those who have done more than 100 memberships would be added to the active membership list. Till October 17, some 9,000 people had joined as active members. “We have set a target of 40,000 active membership across Telangana. Only those who are active members of various booth committees are eligible for organisational posts. Only the BJP has internal democracy. The BJP conducts organisational elections in a democratic manner. The party has appointed Dr K Laxman as the returning officer at the national level for Sangathan,” he said.
He said former MLA and State vice-president Yendala Lakshminarayana, Karunakar and former Mahila Morcha State president Geetha Murthy have been appointed as co-returning officers of the party.
“We are organizing the membership drive by bringing together and coordinating people from all walks of life. The BJP organised nearly 1,000 camps under the aegis of the ST Morcha and received 50,000 memberships. More than 500 camps are being organised under the aegis of Mahila Morcha and camps are being organised at various places under the aegis of Yuvajana Morcha, OBC Morcha, Minority Morcha and Kisan Morcha. We are also conducting the BJP’s membership drive in agency areas. There is a good response from the people everywhere,” he said. (PMI)
