BJP Leader N Ramchander Rao Condemns Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s Remarks On PM Modi’s Caste

Hyderabad, February 15: BJP leader N Ramchander Rao on Saturday condemned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s caste, calling them “cheap” and politically tasteless. Rao alleged that Reddy’s comments were an attempt to divert attention from the Congress government’s caste census controversy in the state.

“The remarks made by the Chief Minister of Telangana about the caste of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are cheap and in poor political taste. This statement has been made by the Congress party only to divert attention from their caste census fiasco, which has failed in the state,” Rao told. He also pointed out that ministers from the Telangana government had admitted that the caste census needed to be reviewed due to the exclusion of some people.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, speaking at a Congress event in Hyderabad on Thursday, had accused PM Modi of having an “anti-backward classes” mentality. In response, BJP OBC Morcha National President K Laxman criticized Reddy, calling his remarks “false.” He clarified that PM Modi’s caste was included in the OBC list by the Gujarat government in 1994, long before he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and was also added to the Centre’s list before 2000. Laxman further suggested that Reddy’s statement was a distraction from the political fallout of his unfulfilled pre-election promises.

The controversy surrounding the caste-based socio-economic survey conducted by the Congress government in Telangana has sparked significant political uproar. Opposition parties have raised concerns over alleged discrepancies in the survey, while Congress leaders have defended it as “scientific, transparent, and accurate.”

Earlier this month, Telangana’s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the caste-based survey, the first since the 2011 Census, was the “most scientific, transparent, and accurate population study since Independence.” He argued that previous caste surveys were incomplete or unofficial, whereas this one was legitimate and detailed. He also defended the survey process, highlighting the use of social scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders in the design of the survey’s questionnaire.
