Dhaka / New Delhi, 1 January 2026 (PMI): In a disturbing continuation of targeted violence, another Hindu individual in Bangladesh has reportedly been set on fire, marking the fourth such attack in the past two weeks.
Local authorities confirmed that the latest incident occurred [insert location if known], and the victim has been hospitalized with serious burns. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and apprehend those responsible.
Human rights organizations have strongly condemned the attacks, calling for increased protection for minority communities and swift action against perpetrators.
Senior officials stated that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of vulnerable communities amid rising communal tensions.
Khokon Chandra, a medical shop owner, was reportedly returning home when a mob stabbed him and set him ablaze. He survived by jumping into a nearby pond and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries to his lower abdomen and head. He is currently receiving treatment.
“My husband is a simple man. He did not harm anyone. I don’t know why this happened,” Chandra’s wife told NDTV, demanding justice.
Violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh has been escalating since December last year. On 18 December, 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob over alleged blasphemy claims, his body hanged from a tree and set on fire. A week later, 29-year-old Amrit Mondal was killed in the Hossaindanga area of Kalimohar Union.
India has condemned the attacks, raising concerns about the safety of Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists in Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, called India’s statements “incorrect, exaggerated, and misleading.”
Exiled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticized the current Muhammad Yunus government, calling the killings a “collapse of law and order” and accusing the authorities of failing to protect religious minorities while allowing extremists to influence policy.(pressmediaofindia.com)
