After the formation of Telangana in 2014, Reddy became the first Chief of the Intelligence Department in the rank of Inspector General.
Hyderabad, Sept. 26 (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI): Senior IPS officer B. Shivadhar Reddy, a 1994 batch officer of the Telangana cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of Police (Coordination) and will also hold the Full Additional Charge (FAC) of Director General of Police (Head of Police Force), Telangana. The State government issued orders to this effect on Friday, ahead of the superannuation of incumbent DGP Dr. Jitender, who is scheduled to retire at the end of this month.
Shivadhar Reddy, who is currently heading the Intelligence Department of Telangana Police, brings with him over three decades of experience in policing, intelligence, and administration. Known for his meticulous style of functioning and his contribution to building Telangana’s intelligence network, he has been entrusted with leading the police force at a crucial juncture.
A native of Peddatundla village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Ranga Reddy district, he has risen through the ranks with several key assignments at both the district and state levels. Over the years, he has served as Deputy Inspector General in important zones, Chief of Special Intelligence Bureau, Additional Director and later Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, and Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam City. He also had the distinction of becoming the first Chief of Intelligence in Telangana after the formation of the state in the rank of Inspector General. After being promoted as Additional DGP, he worked in the Personnel Wing, Railways, and Road Safety.
In December 2023, the Congress government reinstated him as Chief of Intelligence in the rank of Additional DGP, a decision that underscored his expertise in intelligence gathering and operational planning. With his latest appointment, he now assumes leadership of the entire state police force at a time when law and order challenges are becoming more complex.
As Telangana’s new police chief, Shivadhar Reddy is expected to focus on intelligence-based policing, effective crime control, and administrative reforms.
