Hyderabad, Oct 1 (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI) Senior IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy on Wednesday took charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana at the state police headquarters in Lakdikapul.
Soon after assuming office, Reddy outlined his priorities — filling vacant posts, upgrading skills, and modernizing the force. “We will urge the government to expedite recruitment and strengthen specialized wings with trained experts,” he said.
On the upcoming local body elections, the DGP assured that the police were fully prepared. “A strong team is in place, and technology will be extensively used to ensure peaceful and transparent elections,” he noted.
Addressing the issue of left-wing extremism, Reddy appealed to Maoist leaders to abandon violence and join the mainstream. “Their ideology has failed in practice. Those who surrender will be provided full rehabilitation and support,” he emphasized.
Highlighting his broader vision, Reddy said the focus would be on modernization, community partnership, and countering extremism not only through policing but also through rehabilitation initiatives.
Shivadhar Reddy Appointed as Telangana DGP; A Distinguished Career in Policing
: Senior IPS officer B. Shivadhar Reddy, a 1994 batch officer, has assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. Born and brought up in Hyderabad, with roots in Tool-e-Kalan (Peddatundla) of Ibrahimpatnam mandal in Ranga Reddy district, Reddy brings with him three decades of experience across diverse wings of policing and intelligence.
Reddy began his career as an ASP in the Visakhapatnam district, serving in Anakapalle, Narsipatnam, and Chintapalli. He later worked as an Additional SP, Greyhounds Squadron Commander, and SP in Nalgonda, Srikakulam, Nellore, Guntur, apart from serving as DCP (Traffic) and DCP (South Zone) in Hyderabad. He also had a stint in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (2003–04).
Over the years, he held key leadership roles as DIG, SIB; Additional Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau; Director, ACB; Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam; and IGP, Intelligence — becoming the first Chief of Intelligence in Telangana. He went on to serve as ADGP (Personnel), ADGP (Railways & Road Safety), ADGP (Intelligence), and later as DG (Intelligence) and DGP (HoPF), Telangana.
Reddy has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Police Medal for Gallantry (2002), Antarik Suraksha Seva Pathak (2003), United Nations Police Medal (2003), Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2011), Asadharan Aasuchana Kushalta Padak (2018), President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (2020), and Ati Utkrisht Seva Padak (2021).
With his vast experience in law enforcement, intelligence, and community policing, the new DGP is expected to bring a strong focus on modernization, skill development, and effective policing in Telangana. (pressmediaofindia.com)
