Ayodhya Sets Two Guinness World Records at Grand Deepotsav 2025 Celebration
Ayodhya’Oct 20 (PMI) Ayodhya’s Deepotsav 2025 lit up the world—literally—as the city created two new Guinness World Records during its dazzling Diwali celebrations on October 17. Over 2.61 million oil lamps (diyas) illuminated the banks of the Saryu River, setting a new global benchmark for the largest display of oil lamps.
Organised by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department in partnership with the Ayodhya District Administration, the event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 30,000 volunteers, including students and staff from universities and various government departments. The diyas were meticulously arranged in specific patterns to ensure accurate counting and smooth verification by Guinness World Records officials.
Adding to the spectacle, 2,128 devotees took part in the largest-ever Saryu Aarti, another record-breaking moment that showcased the city’s deep spiritual and cultural traditions.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Richard Stenning, present at the event, praised the effort, saying, “Today we have witnessed an amazing display… It is a truly spectacular thing.” Fellow official Nischal Barot confirmed the records, stating, “We are very happy that it was a success. This was the highest in the world.”
The celebrations didn’t stop at record-breaking feats. A vibrant Ram Leela performance, accompanied by a laser and light show, added a theatrical dimension to the festivities. The entire city of Ayodhya was aglow, with the ghats of the Saryu River transformed into a breathtaking canvas of light, devotion, and cultural pride.
