Hyderabad’Nov 30 (PMI NEWS)AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to expedite the long-delayed construction of the multilevel smart parking facility at the Old Charminar Bus Stand, emphasizing that the project is essential to resolving chronic parking problems in the historic precinct.
The GHMC had proposed the project nearly a decade ago, envisioning a state-of-the-art multilevel structure on 3,493 square meters, comprising three cellars and three floors. The facility is designed to accommodate around 145–150 four-wheelers and a similar number of two-wheelers. It also includes 310–315 commercial spaces for hawkers in the cellar and ground floor, along with a rooftop garden restaurant with gazebos.
Despite initial planning and land barricading, the project has made no progress. GHMC officials revealed that tenders received no response from reputed firms due to “local challenges” in executing the work.
The proposed parking complex includes advanced features such as automated parking systems, digital display boards, digital payment kiosks, CCTV surveillance, fire safety installations, emergency exits, and designated commercial areas for small traders.
Currently, visitors to Charminar and its surrounding markets struggle to find parking, often leaving their vehicles at the Charminar bus stand and Khilwat playground. Owaisi noted that completing the multilevel parking facility would not only ease traffic and parking congestion but also enhance business opportunities for local vendors and shopkeepers.
