Speaking on the occasion, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy said CM KCR was not ready to allow Hyderabad Metro Rail from the front side of the Assembly before becoming the CM of the State but retracted from his State after coming into power. He said the Assembly building was even better than the present Parliament House. He reminded everybody that the present Assembly buildings housed both Telangana and AP Assemblies without any problem and wondered as to what made the CM KCR to build a new Assembly building.
Noting that the existing Secretariat building was also new and could last for another 70 years, he alleged that the CM was trying to remove the “Vaastu dosam” to make his son as the next CM of the State. He made it clear that the Congress was totally against the demolition of the Secretariat and Assembly buildings. He said such a move was nothing but wasting public money.
Commenting on the observations made by the State High Court that it would not interfere in the policy decisions of the State government, Reddy said he was surprised to hear the observation of the High Court. He said he would raise the issue in Parliament. He demanded that the State government elicit public opinion on its proposed new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.
Congress MP A. Revanth Reddy has alleged that CM KCR was trying to thrust his superstitions on the people of the State. He said while the State Assembly building was constructed in the year 1985, it was renovated by spending Rs 20 crore in the year 2015 by CM KCR himself. He said that barring buildings constructed by erstwhile Nizam, the other buildings were constructed only 30 years back. He made it clear that all government buildings were generally constructed to last for 100 years. He made it clear that all the buildings located in Secretariat complex would have to be used for 100 years at any cost.
He alleged that the officials of the state government had removed all the heritage buildings, which the CM KCR wanted to demolish, including Irrum Manzil heritage buildings was removed form the list of heritage buildings. He alleged that CM KCR was wasting natural resources at will while opining that the courts should also not allow CM KCR to go ahead with its superstitions. He mocked that the promises of the CM to build a 200 feet martyr’s memorial and 125 feet BR Ambedkar statue had now been shelved by him.
He wanted to know from the State government as to how the CM would demolish the existing mosque and Pochamma temple located beside C block of the Secretariat. He demanded that the State government utilize the buildings for other purposes. He urged the chairperson of the foundation Vivek to open debates on the issue in all the districts of the State. Reddy said the duty to protect the two important buildings would now lie on the shoulders of the Governor of the State. He warned that they would lay a siege to Raj Bhavan if Governor ESL Narasimhan did not intervene in the issue. He said they would meet the Governor very soon along with the all party leaders.
