Akbaruddin Owaisi acquitted in two hate speech cases

Hyderabad, April 13 (Press media of india): The special court for MP and MLA cases today acquitted AIMIM floor leader in the Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi of all charges  in connection with two hate speech cases filed against him by police  in December 2012.

The special judge found the evidence submitted by the prosecution insufficient and gave Owaisi the benefit of doubt. The court asked Akbaruddin Owaisi to not deliver such hate speeches in future while noting that such speeches are not good for the unity and integrity of the country.

Speaking to media persons, counsel for Akbaruddin Owaisi MA Azeem said the court observed that the evidence produced by the prosecution was not sufficient and added that the court gave the benefit of doubt to Akbaruddin and acquitted him of all the charges  in the two cases. Referring to the report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) produced by the prosecution, he said it  was not corroborated  by other evidence.

The two cases are related to his controversial speeches delivered in Nizamabad on December 8, 2012, and at Nirmal town on December 22, 2012 respectively. The police arrested Owaisi in January 2013 in the hate speech case filed against him in connection with the speech he delivered at Nirmal. He was later shown as arrested in the second hate speech case also in connection with his speech delivered at Nizamabad. Owaisi spent 40 days in Adilabad jail after his arrest.

In the trial court, Akbaruddin Owaisi denied all allegations levelled against him in the two cases.

The Nirmal police and the CID investigated the two cases and submitted charge-sheet in 2016. As many as 41 witnesses were examined in the Nizamabad case. In the Nirmal hate speech case  33 witnesses  were examined by the court. The arguments in the court concluded on April 7. The court posted the case to April 12, 2022 for pronouncement of judgment. However, the date of the delivery of the verdict was postponed to April 13, 2022. (PMI)
