Hyderabad, March 18:(PMI) In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Kulsumpura Police have busted an illegal pickle manufacturing unit operating under unhygienic conditions in the Jiyaguda area of the city. Two people were arrested for allegedly preparing and selling adulterated pickles without a valid license.
According to police, the raid was conducted on Wednesday by Sub-Inspector M. Narsimha and his team during routine patrolling. The team inspected a godown located at Venkateshwara Nagar, where they found a large-scale pickle production unit functioning in extremely unsanitary conditions.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were using spoiled vegetables and substandard raw materials to prepare various types of pickles. These products were then supplied to local shops at cheaper rates, posing a serious health risk to consumers.
During the raid, police seized 72 drums of pickles, including lemon, red chilli, raw tamarind, amla, and sorrel varieties. Additionally, six drums of tomato and tamarind paste, one drum of ginger-garlic paste, and a weighing machine were also confiscated.
The arrested persons have been identified as N. Narsimha (54) and N. Naresh (45), both residents of Jiyaguda.
A case has been registered under Sections 318(4), 274, and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kulsumpura Police Station. Police said further investigation is in progress.
Officials have advised the public to remain cautious while purchasing food products, especially those sold at unusually low prices without proper certification, to avoid potential health hazards.(pressmediaofindia.com)
