Actor Mohan Babu, S. Singha Roy presented Doctor of Letters

Chennai, Tamil Nadu Governor  Ch. Vidyasagar Rao today presented Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) to Actor  Mohan Babu and Honorary Degree, Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) to  S. Singha Roy, Outstanding Scientist, Director, Technical – Light Water Reactor, National Power Corporation of India Ltd. The Doctor of Letters was presented at the 26th Convocation of Dr M.G.R Educational & Research Institute University at Chennai today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor appealed to the Faculty and Members of educational institutions and Universities to create curiosity and promote scientific temper among the students. “The nation needs more and more scientists and researchers. As knowledge providers, the educational institutions and universities should establish academic linkage by signing MoUs and organizing education exchange programs with the colleges and universities across the globe”, he said, adding there was immense potential for India in the field of Nano-technology, Bio-technology and Bio-engineering to transform herself into a global R&D platform.

  1. Mohan Babu is a popular Actor, an educationist, a parliamentarian, a philanthropist and a Padma Shri Awardee. Mohan Babu with hismatchless dialogue delivery has brought a new genre to Telugu film industry. He played various roles in his career spanning four decades and has won the hearts of the rasikas and even today he continues to enthrall every one by his acting. It is a pleasure to present Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) to Mohan Babu for his significant contribution to the Telugu Film Industry.
  2. Singha Roy, who is an outstanding scientist, Director, Technical – Light Water Reactor in National Power Corporation of India Ltd for his distinguished contribution in the field of Nuclear Power.

A convocation is a memorable occasion for the students.  For the University and colleges, it is not only a matter of rejoice on the achievements made, but also an occasion to turn back and learn from the hurdles crossed and to plan for the future to attain excellence in education, the Governor said. “The Governor said India is known for its rich culture and tradition. You should be our nation’s Cultural Ambassadors.  Wherever you are, carry forward the rich legacy of our nation”, he added.
