Tehran, March 22: Iranian military sources have warned that any potential US strike on Kharg Island could trigger a serious regional escalation, with consequences extending to key international maritime routes.
According to the sources, Iran may respond by destabilizing the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The strait, often referred to as the “Gate of Tears,” is a vital passage linking global shipping lanes to the Suez Canal.
The report, carried by Tasnim News Agency, cited military officials as saying that the United States would face “unimaginable” consequences if it follows through on threats of military action.
Sources further indicated that Iran could target energy infrastructure across the region, raising concerns over global oil supplies. They also highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a major dilemma for US policymakers due to its critical role in international oil transportation.
The officials added that while an attack on Kharg Island could temporarily disrupt Iran’s oil production, Tehran’s potential retaliation could have far-reaching global economic and security implications.
