Hyderabad, February 27(PMI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday made a significant political claim ahead of the upcoming civic polls, stating that nearly 80 percent of Muslim women within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are inclined to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing media representatives in Hyderabad, Bandi Sanjay said the assertion was based on findings from a recent survey conducted across GHMC areas. However, he did not reveal the name of the survey agency or provide further details regarding its methodology or sample size.
BJP Confident of Victory in Key Urban Bodies
Expressing confidence over the party’s electoral prospects, the Union Minister predicted that the BJP would secure victories not only in GHMC but also in the Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations. He claimed that public dissatisfaction with the ruling Congress government was steadily growing, particularly in urban regions.
According to him, recent incidents such as alleged temple vandalism in Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad and communal clashes in Banswada in Kamareddy district have contributed to public anger. He alleged that these developments were a consequence of what he described as a “tacit understanding” between the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Allegations of Political Understanding Between Congress and AIMIM
Bandi Sanjay further claimed that criticism directed at Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy by AIMIM leaders, was part of a political strategy designed to create an impression of rivalry between the two parties. He alleged that despite public disagreements, both parties were working together behind the scenes.
He asserted that such tactics were intended to mislead voters ahead of the GHMC elections.
Criticism Over Unfulfilled Promises
The Union Minister strongly criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for what he termed as a failure to implement key promises made in the Congress party’s 2023 Assembly election manifesto. He specifically referred to assurances such as a ₹2,500 monthly pension for women and an unemployment honorarium for youth.
According to Bandi Sanjay, the Congress government’s tenure so far has been marked more by demolitions than development. He cited the recent demolition of approximately 650 houses in Velugumatla Bhudaan lands in Khammam district as an example. He stated that the BJP’s legal team was coordinating with the affected families and alleged that party workers were subjected to a lathi-charge while protesting in support of the victims.
Questions on Kaleshwaram Project Allegations
Raising the issue of alleged financial irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, Bandi Sanjay questioned the Congress government on the scale of the alleged scam under the previous BRS regime. He asked whether the irregularities amounted to ₹1.5 lakh crore or ₹9,000 crore and demanded clarity from the Chief Minister.
He further questioned why those allegedly responsible had not yet been brought to justice.
BJP Telangana President Supports Claim
Echoing Bandi Sanjay’s remarks, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that Congress and AIMIM share a covert political alliance.
He referred to comments made by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who compared Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stating that both leaders were against Muslims. Rao dismissed these remarks as political drama intended to create a false perception of hostility between Congress and AIMIM.
Rao further alleged that the Congress was attempting to conceal its political understanding with AIMIM ahead of the crucial GHMC elections. He also recalled a past statement attributed to Revanth Reddy during the Jubilee Hills by-election campaign, claiming it reflected the Congress party’s political positioning.(pressmediaofindia.com)
