Tensions Rise in Patna After Provocative Remarks Targeting Prophet Mohammed

a, March 20 (PMI) Tensions flared in Patna after a student protest over UGC regulations led to controversy and alleged hate speech.

During a demonstration at Patna College, student leader Manish Kumar reportedly burned the Manusmriti, stating that the country should be governed by the Constitution. The protest was organised by left-wing and Dalit student groups supporting the proposed UGC Equity Regulations 2026.

Following the incident, Madhavlal Kashyap, associated with a Hindutva organisation, allegedly posted a video on social media making provocative remarks and issuing threats that escalated communal tensions. The video circulated widely online.

Police have since registered a case against Kashyap at a cybercrime police station for allegedly promoting enmity and disturbing public harmony. Authorities confirmed that a special team has been formed to investigate the matter and monitor the situation.

Officials said the police acted after receiving information about inflammatory content being shared on social media that could disrupt peace. Further investigation is underway. (pressmediaofindia.com)
