14 held for cable theft; stock worth Rs 10 lakh seized’ . S. Rashmi Perumal IPS, DCP North Zone

 The Bowenpally police on Sunday, September 1 arrested 14 members of a gang accused of stealing underground cables worth Rs 10 lakh.

Hyderabad‘ Sept 2 (PMI)Recent times there are incidents that some unknown offenders committing theft of underground copper communication cables causing huge financial loss to the BSNL and disruption in services to the public as well leading the consumers shifting from BSNL to other service providers. The offenders posing themselves to be official workers for road cuttings and other Road works, digging the road sides and committing theft of valuable copper communication cables during night time.
In one of these similar instances, Bowenpally Police registered a case on 13.08.2024 on complaint of Sri. D. Maruthy SDE (BSNL) about a major underground copper cable theft occurred near Centre Point Nala, Bowenpally causing significant damage to BSNL infrastructure, resulting in a substantial revenue loss and disruption to the services.
Bowenpally Police could get breakthrough in this case with the help of CCTV footage and intercepted 14 offenders of the gang at Tadbund X Road, Bowenpally, while moving in a passenger auto and two two-wheeler bikes on board in a suspicious manner. The offenders have admitted their guilt in commission of theft of underground copper cable near Centre Point Nala, Bowenpally in addition to other similar offences in the interrogation leading to recovery of property all worth Rs. 10,00,000/-. They have further confessed they have committed several thefts while digging the roads during the night time wearing worker jackets in the limits of various police stations.

4) One Hero HD Deluxe Br. No. TS-07-GD-3971.
5) Two reflect jackets.
6) Two Iron digging bar with pin shape (crow bar).
7) Two hoe.
