Hyderabad ‘April ’25 2023 (PMI) Thirteen members of an Notorious interstate gang who were allegedly involved in circulation of counterfeit currency notes have been arrested by the Cyberabad police on Tuesday. The Cyberabad police seized counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs. 30.68 lakh and original currency in cash of Rs. 60,500. and 13 mobile phones.
The Cyberabad Commissioner, Stephen Raveendra IPS said’On receiving complaint from the Supervisor working at Raidurgam, that one of the customers Rajesh at the time of vacating the room gave fake notes and the fake notes look exactly like the original notes. On further investigation found that the Rajesh and some other people formed a gang and circulated fake currency notes by secretly printing them somewhere and they all circulated in the market according to their plan, due to their activities ordinary citizens and petty business vendors are suffering financial loss, due to the involvement of such gang. Also, the circulation of counterfeit currency is causing huge losses to the Indian Economy.
Based on the above facts case is registered in Cr No: 380/2023 U/s 489-A, 489-B, 489-D, 420 r/w 120-b IPC of Raidurgam PS, Cyberabad.

Previous Criminal History:
The accused A1 Koneti Rajesh was previousy arrested by Banjara Hills Police in Cr.no. 920/2021 u/s 406,420 IPC.
Modus Operandi:
The accused Rajesh used to comment on the YouTube videos and post on Instagram that the fake currency is available and provide the mobile number in the account DP through which various clients come in contact with him and purchase the Fake notes. The same marketing is used by various manufacturers and distributors for the circulation of fake currency. In the similar manner the accused Rajesh and Neel Das came into contact with various counterfeit currency suppliers/manufacturers i.e., Ramesh of Telangana, Charan Singh & gang from Andhra Pradesh and Suriya from Tamil Nadu. They took the Counterfeit Currency from them in 1:5 ratio. The main gang members Rajesh and Neel Das supplied counterfeit currency to other gang members in 1:3 ratio saying these notes are similar to original currency. The accused asked the persons to whom he supplied the counterfeit currency to use the currency in the night markets, street vendors and small shop keepers.

Rajeshwar Reddy- SOT Shamshabad and the men of Special Task Force, L&O Police, and SOT Cyberabad teams who actively participated in apprehending the gang.

- Look for the watermark.
- Check the security thread which will be continuous when seen against the light.
- Check the printing quality.
- Check for micro-lettering.
- Check the feel of the paper.
- Check the serial number.
- Check for the cutting of the currency note border.
- Counterfeit currency notes are highly circulated in the following areas:
Small Grocery shops in villages, Weekly vegetable markets, Pan Shops, Wine Shops, Petrol Pumps, Rice Mills, Money Transfer Shops at Internet centers, Milk Shops, Events and College Fests, Scrap Shops, Push Carts and Labour addas.
- Counterfeit currency circulators choose gully bully people.
- All these petty vendors are advised to Double-check the currency before accepting and if any suspicion try to avoid large denomination.
