11 Arrested in Puranapool Communal Incident; Police Intensify Security

Hyderabad Jan 19 (PMI) Kamatipura Police arrested 11 persons on Sunday in connection with a communal incident at Puranapool Chilla, which occurred earlier this month and led to tension in the area.

According to the police, the accused were part of an unlawful assembly that allegedly raised provocative and communal slogans and damaged public property, disturbing communal harmony and public tranquillity.

The incident was triggered on January 15, around 11.30 pm, when one of the accused allegedly entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple and partially damaged a flex banner and a Plaster of Paris (POP) idol placed in the temple veranda. Subsequently, a group of accused persons gathered and damaged the Chilla, escalating tensions between communities.

Based on a complaint, Kamatipura Police registered a case vide Crime No. 12/2026 and launched an investigation. Police officials said that CCTV footage and technical evidence were analysed, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused.

The arrested persons, aged between 19 and 45 years, are residents of Pardiwada and Puranapool areas and are engaged in various occupations, including private jobs, small businesses, and daily wage work. All the accused were produced before the court on January 19 and were remanded to judicial custody.

Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest other absconding accused involved in the case.

Meanwhile, following the directions of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, police have stepped up security and confidence-building measures in the sensitive areas. Flag marches, intensified patrolling, and deployment of pickets have been carried out in Kamatipura and Bahadurpura to prevent any untoward incidents.

Police appealed to the public to maintain peace, avoid spreading rumours, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure communal harmony in the city. (pressmediaofindia.com)
