Partial lunar eclipse visible in India on May 26

The partial lunar eclipse will be visible for a short period from the northeastern region (except Sikkim), some parts of West Bengal, some coastal parts of Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar, the IMD said.

This is the first total lunar eclipse since January 21, 2019 and it is a supermoon.

The eclipse will be visible in the region covering South America, North America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean.

According to NASA, there has been a series of celestial events since May 17 that will culminate in the total lunar eclipse.

The partial eclipse starts at 15 hours 15 hours IST (Indian standard time). The total phase starts at 16h39m IST. The total phase ends at 16 hours 58 minutes IST. The partial phase will end at 18h 23m IST.

The next lunar eclipse will be visible from India on 19 November 2020. This will be a partial lunar eclipse.

Lunar eclipses occur on a full moon when the earth enters between the sun and the moon and when all three objects are in line.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon comes under the umbrella of the earth, and the partial lunar eclipse occurs when only a portion of the moon comes under the umbrella of the earth.
